Basic Life Support

The BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

Course Content

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multi rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi rescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

  • Full BLS Provider Course takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing

Continuing Education Accreditation – Emergency Medical Services
 
This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), 1 hr of CE credits for every 50 minutes of education

**CAPCE credit must be claimed within 6 months of attendance. CME/CE credit will no longer be available to claim for this activity after the 6-month claiming period

Heartcode BLS

This course uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills.

  • New science and education from the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC
  • The components of high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival for prehospital and in-facility providers
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multi rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi rescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

Course Format/Time

  • Blended Learning (online portion, followed by hands-on session)
  • The online portion of HeartCode BLS can be completed in approximately 1 to 2 hours. Time to complete the hands-on session varies from 2 hours, 45 minutes, to 70 minutes, depending on the experience of the student.
