Pediatric Advanced Life Support - Initial Class

This classroom, instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support , PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics.

The goal of the pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Course Content

  • 1 and 2 rescuer child CPR and AED use
  • 1 and 2 rescuer infant CPR
  • Cardiac, respiratory and shock case discussions and simulations
  • Key changes in pediatric advanced life support, reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
  • Management of respiratory emergencies
  • Resuscitation team concept
  • Related Pharmacology

Course Format/Time

  • Classroom-based (instructor and video, with skills conducted throughout)

    • Course requires approximately 15 hours 20 minutes to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.
     
     * course time based on 1 instructor: 6 students: 2 manikins

Continuing Education Accreditation – Emergency Medical Services
 
This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), 1 hr of CE credits for every 50 minutes of education

**CAPCE credit must be claimed within 6 months of attendance. CME/CE credit will no longer be available to claim for this activity after the 6-month claiming period
