CPR & AED for the Professional

Offered through the American Safety & Health Institute

This course is designed for the professional rescuer and teaches recognition of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), heart attack and stroke as well as two rescuer CPR and the use of a bag valve-mask. This course also teaches the proper operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Learn all the skills necessary to obtain professional level basic life support certification.

  • Use of a BVM
  • Operating an AED
  • BLS at the Professional Level

Additional Information

Audience:  This course is intended for healthcare providers, first responders, professional rescuers, fire, police, lifeguards or anyone needing professional level basic life support training as a job requirement.

Course Format/Time

  • Classroom-based (instructor and video, with skills conducted throughout)

    • Course requires approximately 6 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.


Upon successful completion and competent performance of the required core knowledge and skills objectives, all students receive a 2 year card through the American Safety & Health Institute.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Renewal Class

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in small group sessions, in addition to group learning and testing stations where care-based scenarios are presented.

Course Content

  • Airway management
  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation
  • Effective Resuscitation Team Dynamics
  • Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Related Pharmacology

Continuing Education Accreditation – Emergency Medical Services
This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), 1 hr of CE credits for every 50 minutes of education

**CAPCE credit must be claimed within 6 months of attendance. CME/CE credit will no longer be available to claim for this activity after the 6-month claiming period
